A Walt Disney World waitress struggles to hold on to her middle-class life amid the pandemic. Flaviana Decker moved to the US from Brazil in 2000, a lifelong dream of hers. From 2006, she had been working in the park's Ohana restaurant at the Polynesian Village Resort. Then, the coronavirus pandemic hit, and in October she was let go — everything changed. Through Decker's experience, Greg Jaffe chronicles in The Washington Post many of the realities middle-class Americans are facing as a consequence of the catastrophic layoffs all across the country.
